ROLE OVERVIEW
The IT Staging Engineer will work closely with the IT Team and vendors to ensure the successful configuration, testing, and packaging of IT equipment for new store openings and revamps. This role focuses on preparing all technology components including POS systems, routers, phones, and pinpads in a staging environment, ensuring everything is pre-configured and ready for deployment. The IT Staging Engineer will be instrumental in streamlining the deployment process, minimizing onsite setup time, and ensuring smooth store launches.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Staging and Configuration:
- Configure and set up all IT equipment, including POS systems, routers, switches, phones, pinpads, and peripherals, for new store deployments or upgrades.
- Ensure store specific configurations (IP addressing, VLAN setups, network configurations) are accurately applied to all devices.
- Preinstall software and verify system compatibility with centralized services such as head office applications and cloud systems.
Testing and Validation:
- Conduct end-to-end testing of configured equipment to ensure functionality of key systems, such as sales processing, payment terminals, and phone systems.
- Verify network connectivity and device communication with the company’s central infrastructure.
- Identify and resolve any technical issues before deployment, collaborating with vendors or internal teams when necessary.
Packaging and Shipping:
- Organise and package all staged equipment into a cohesive "store in a box" solution, ensuring everything is clearly labelled for easy installation.
- Oversee logistics for the shipment of staged equipment to store locations, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries.
Collaboration and Vendor Coordination:
- Liaise with hardware vendors to ensure the timely delivery of IT equipment needed for store builds.
- Work closely with the IT Team and vendors to resolve any hardware or software issues encountered during the staging process.
Post Deployment Support:
- Provide remote assistance to onsite installation teams, ensuring successful setup of all staged equipment during store opening or revamp.
- Troubleshoot any issues that arise during or after installation, coordinating with vendors and IT support as needed.
Documentation and Labelling:
- Document each store’s specific IT configuration, including network diagrams, IP ranges, and device settings.
- Maintain accurate records of the staging process, ensuring all deployed systems are fully accounted for and easily identifiable.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements in the staging and deployment workflow, including the use of automation and standardization.
- Stay informed of technological advancements and best practices to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of store deployments.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education:
- Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications, such as CCNA or CompTIA Network+, are an advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in IT staging, deployment, or support roles.
- Demonstrated experience in configuring and testing a range of IT equipment, including networking devices and POS systems.
- Familiarity with logistics and coordinating shipping processes for IT equipment is beneficial.
Skills:
- Proficient in networking (LAN/WAN, WiFi, VPN, IP addressing, VLANs).
- Strong understanding of POS systems, payment terminals, and retail technology.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work efficiently under tight deadlines.
