IT Staging Engineer
Purpose of the Role
The IT Staging Engineer is responsible for the preparation, configuration, testing, asset management, and quality assurance of all IT equipment prior to deployment to stores, support centres, distribution centres, and regional offices.
The role ensures that all hardware is fully configured, standardised, tested, documented, and deployment-ready before shipment. This includes POS devices, tablets, laptops, networking equipment, payment devices, printers, mobile devices, and Zenia-related hardware and software configurations.
The role is critical in supporting new store openings, store refreshes, replacement programmes, and the continued rollout of strategic technology initiatives such as Zenia.
Key Responsibilities
Device Staging & Configuration
- Configure and stage POS systems, tablets, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and network equipment.
- Prepare and configure Zenia devices and associated applications.
- Apply standard operating system images, configurations, policies, and software packages.
- Ensure devices comply with Hungry Lion standards before deployment.
Quality Assurance & Testing
- Perform functional testing of all staged equipment.
- Validate connectivity, software, peripherals, and user configurations.
- Ensure all equipment is deployment-ready before release.
- Identify and resolve configuration issues before shipment.
Asset & Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate records of all staged equipment.
- Update asset registers and deployment records.
- Track hardware movement between suppliers, staging facility, and stores.
- Assist with stock control and inventory audits.
Deployment Preparation
- Prepare deployment kits for new stores and replacement projects.
- Ensure all required equipment is included and documented.
- Coordinate with logistics teams for shipment scheduling.
- Support rollout planning activities.
Process Improvement
- Develop and maintain staging procedures and checklists.
- Identify opportunities to improve staging efficiency and quality.
- Support automation initiatives for device provisioning and configuration.
- Assist with standardisation of deployment processes.
Support & Collaboration
- Work closely with Infrastructure, Network, POS, and New Store teams.
- Support urgent replacement and break-fix requirements.
- Assist with pilot deployments and new technology evaluations.
Technical Skills & Experience
Essential
- 2–5 years' experience in IT support, deployment, or device staging.
- Experience configuring Windows, Android, and mobile devices.
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals.
- Experience with hardware installation and troubleshooting.
- Strong attention to detail and quality control.
Preferred
- Experience in retail IT environments.
- Experience with POS systems and payment devices.
- Experience supporting large-scale device rollouts.
- Familiarity with MDM, device imaging, and automated deployment tools.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Information Technology or related field.
- Relevant vendor certifications advantageous.
