The Opportunity

Join our dynamic Finance team in Mauritius to start with a permanent on-site role and be at the heart of Hungry Lion’s Africa-wide growth journey! In this role, you will play a proactive part in ensuring that all financial information is prepared accurately and on time for audits, strategic analysis, and compliance. You will keep us tax compliant, support data-driven decision-making, and help drive operational excellence across our stores in multiple African countries.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Champion Tax Compliance
• Conduct regular checks and investigations.
• Reconcile taxes to statements from Revenue Authorities.
• Assist with timely VAT and withholding tax submissions.
Keep Our Books in Top Shape
• Manage the fixed asset register, monthly reconciliations, and depreciation runs.
• Handle bank reconciliations for sales, salaries, suppliers, petty cash, fuel, and buying cards.
• Help reconcile Creditor Payables ledgers for Supplier invoices and payments made
Drive Financial Insight & Reporting
• Prepare accurate monthly cash-flow statements.
• Analyse and report variances between actuals and budgets.
• Contribute to monthly stock valuation and cost of sales calculations to ensure accurate reporting on gross profit per store and company-wide.
• Provide timely weekly and monthly financial analysis to the Financial Director and management team.
Strengthen Controls & Compliance
• Monitor intercompany balances and forex movements.
• Coordinate and support external audits to achieve unqualified results.
• Maintain internal financial controls and manage compliance with IFRS SMEs / GAAP standards.
• Assist with internal risk management processes.
Collaborate & Innovate
• Partner closely with the Financial Director on ad hoc tasks and strategic projects.
• Prepare analytical reports, back-testing studies, and viability recommendations for new stores.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
Please Note: This role will evolve and additional tasks and projects will be added to the role as the team grows to manage finance across several African countries.
Qualifications & Certifications:
• Qualified Accountant or Chartered Accountant (preferred)
• Registered with the Mauritian accounting authority. (preferred)
• 2–3 years’ (post-articles if CA) experience in accounting, with solid intermediate Excel skills preferred (Essential for CA)
• Specialisation in Cost Accounting or Taxation. (desirable)
• Additional taxation certification. (desirable)
• Experience in QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) or retail industries (desirable)
• Sage Accounting X3 (desirable)

Location: Remote from Mauritius to transition into a permanent on-site finance role based at the Mauritius office as the team grows to manage finance across several African countries (not negotiable).
