Electrical Engineer (QSR)

Stellenbosch, South Africa
Full Time
Experienced

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Utilities team to join a rapidly expanding Quick Service Restaurant group based in Stellenbosch, with operations across the African continent. The role is responsible for the technical and commercial management of utilities across the estate, including electricity (grid supply, photovoltaic and battery storage systems), diesel (generators), LPG, and water and sewerage, with a focus on energy efficiency and cost optimisation while maintaining speed of service, food quality, customer experience, and equipment reliability.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication and stakeholder engagement, combined with a proactive, detail-oriented, and solution-focused mindset. This role requires the ability to work through poorly defined problems, interpret complex multi-country utility environments, and independently shape structured solution frameworks. It presents an opportunity for a fast learner with resilience and confidence, a strong drive to deliver measurable value, and the ability to take initiative and operate independently in a technically and commercially demanding environment.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Reducing energy consumption and optimising utility operating costs across the estate through analysis of consumption data, tariff optimisation, and the identification, development, and implementation of energy efficiency interventions.

  • Defining, maintaining, and implementing detailed utility infrastructure requirements and specifications in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders that are correctly sized and fit-for-purpose, avoiding over- or under-specification, minimising reliance on user intervention, requiring low maintenance, and enabling standardised implementation across new and refurbished stores.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • BEng, BSc (Eng), or BTech in Electrical Engineering, or other relevant engineering qualification.

  • Understanding of electrical infrastructure and energy systems, including grid supply, photovoltaic generation, battery storage systems, and diesel backup generation.

  • Understanding of LPG, water supply, and sewerage infrastructure and systems is advantageous, but not mandatory.

  • Strong data analysis and problem-structuring capability.

  • Ability to translate technical analysis into operational and financial decisions.

  • Strong planning, prioritisation, and time-management skills.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for data analysis and modelling.

  • Working knowledge of CAD software for reviewing infrastructure layouts is advantageous, but not mandatory.
