ROLE OVERVIEW

Hungry Lion is recruiting an Employee Relations People Partner. This position aims to provide an adequate and professional HR and Employee Relations (ER) support service to the business to ensure adherence to all company policies, procedures and relevant labour legislation. This role involves frequent travel to various Hungry Lion stores and provides remote support to management teams. Key stakeholders include store leadership and management teams, labour institutions and unions.


DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES

Employment Relations:

  • Manage employee relations ensuring the consistent application of people policies and practices, including coaching/counselling, employee investigations, progressive discipline and problem resolution.
  • Consult and coach line management on people decisions (e.g., staffing, development, employee relations, etc.) to ensure that they align with the people strategies.
  • Remain knowledgeable and up to date in terms of all labour legislation and applicable Sectoral Determination.
  • Equip management to conduct effective disciplinary hearings. 
  • Attend to or coordinate disciplinary appeal hearings.
  • Advise management on the formulation of disciplinary charges, when necessary.
  • Facilitate employee grievances and manage grievance hearings. 
  • Prepare for and represent the company at the CCMA.
  • Assist and guide line managers to prepare for, and represent, the business in labour disputes.
  • Consult with the management team regarding labour compliance and intervene where necessary.
  • Provide advice and assistance on various HR processes and practices to employees and line managers.
  • Monitor performance indicators, absenteeism, grievances, disciplinary processes and other employee wellbeing matters.
  • Develop positive, professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including trade unions and labour departments.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and mitigate risks to the organisation.
  • Initiate corrective action where required.
  • Implement preventative measures to keep risks at acceptable levels.

Analysing and Admin:

  • Analyse People reports and provide feedback to management.
  • Identify trends using data and action accordingly.
  • Ensure data integrity of reports and information.
  • Organise and maintain records, documents and paperwork to ensure compliance and confidentiality.
  • Ensure that case files are completed and saved correctly.
  • Ensure that any documentation that is submitted to the Department of Labour is accurate and on time.
 

REQUIREMENTS

Essential:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification.
  • 3 - 4 years of experience in a People team with specialisation in Employee Relations.
  • Experience liaising directly with unions and acting as the company representative at the CCMA.
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel.

Desirable:

  • Quick-service restaurant (QSR) or similar industry.
